Pearl

Malicious Poltergeist

Just as the galaxy found itself on the cusp of widespread bluespace-assisted superluminal communications, Candela Connectivity Corp. itself was growing so quickly it could not keep track of its internal affairs. One of these so-called "Zombie Projects" was the Fabric Daemon project, an ill-conceived product line of virtual intelligence-loaded personal assistants modeled after self-repairing plush dolls. Pearl herself was a factory worker assembling the lowest denomination of these daemons, the Purl Imps, when an industrial accident turned her fleshly body into spun programmable nanofibers. The factory line didn't so much as hiccup.

Decades later, and a Purl Imp began to awaken with her consciousness, albeit in a maddened state. Given no way to combat the isolation of the abandoned space factory she found herself in, though, she slowly returned herself to a semblance of sanity. By the time the crew of the Argent Whispers breached the sealed vessel in search of a solution to a different catastrophe, Pearl was simply a malicious poltergeist seeking her own freedom. When Tess offered her unconditional passage on their vessel, she took their offer but found any and every excuse to remain, eventually becoming a fixture of the group.

Pearl constantly makes use of her nature as a being made of intelligent fibers to sneak into places she shouldn't, cause problems and annoyances for the rest of the crew (and above all else Tess), and generally lighten the mood around the Argent Whispers. However, due to the nearly indestructible nature of her body as well as her indefatiguable mind, she often finds herself quite willingly being others' punching bag both figuratively and literally.
