Born Ela Ten de Zara, Ela is the daughter of a Vulpkanin father and Furritum mother. She was born on the Coalition's side of the GSC A - ESA A Abyssal Bridge. Due to her birth as a hybrid, Ela spent most of her early life in and out of the GSC medical system. As a young adult, she entered the GSC Military Academy of Sciences under full scholarship, but crumbled under the weight and took sixteen years to reach the tail of the academy's typically seven-year medical program. At that time, she met the crew of the Argent Whispers, found herself swept up in their operation at the Academy, and opted to give up her life as a student to follow them as part of their team.

Ela swings wildly between hyperfocus and under or over-stimulation. During her lows, she is easily overwhelmed and suffers from extreme boredom that drives her to mad biomedical experiments. When focused, however, she works tirelessly, often without food, water, or sleep for long stretches to produce exceptional works in her field. She is extremely attracted to novelty and exotics, both academically and sexually, often times without distinction between the two. Her impulsive, thrill-seeking tendencies only fade when she works in the capacity of a doctor or diagnostician, when she becomes pensive, patient, and deeply objective.
