Campfire is the product of an illegal genetic experimentation project spearheaded by the Six Stars giga-conglomerate. Its body is a fusion of numerous animal species alongside several intelligent spacefaring races, designed to be a quickly maturing species of disposable workers with limited intelligence and therefore limited capability to escape the yokes placed upon them by interested parties who would buy them in bulk. When the GSC and AXI sanctioned them and shut the project down, Campfire found itself suddenly "freed" onto a major galactic transit station with no name, resources, or education.

A short stint working grunt labor while homeless led to Campfire being led by abusive corporate interests into Warhk Aviform Hegemony space, where it fell through the cracks of their lax enforcement against smuggling and slavery by unknnowingly walking into a slaver's den while looking for work and summarily being captured. Years later, it was purchased by Tess and Sage on Uveto IV while attempting to infiltrate the planet's criminal underground in an effort to escape their pursuers. Although it was effectively freed as soon as it was safe to do so, it chose to remain with the group and escaped alongside them.

Campfire is a quiet, shy individual who rarely speaks up, even if it's to its detriment. It maintains a strict self- identity as a possession, for reasons unknown to the rest of the group, and will happily tolerate pain and damage to itself so long as it is in service of Tess or Sage. Early on, Campfire had to be carefully watched to manage its self-sacrificing behavior, but eventually mellowed out and learned a sense of self-preservation. While it possesses no technical skills to boast of, it is a hardy creature with a near-photographic memory that meshes well with an empathetic personality, making it a welcomed and beloved mascot-assistant to the rest of the crew.
